Unfixable Trojan Virus

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Those Goblins in your computer may be Viruses, Malware, Worms, Spyware, or Scareware (a Fraud Tool)… These programs are installed without your consent and could slow down your computer, interfere with Internet access, send spam emails from your email account, steal your personal information and passwords or damage your computer and files.

This October is really a very scary month, especially with the news about the Un-Fixable Trojan Virus….Please make sure you know how Scareware works:    Scareware is a class of bad software (malware) that tries to scare you into purchasing something of limited or no benefit. The most common scareware is a notice about your computer being infected with a virus and contains an offer to purchase a fictitious or useless security software.

This type of program may even bombard you with constant warnings. The software is packaged to look and feel like legitimate security software, making it hard to tell that it’s a fraud.

The Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), an international consortium of leading businesses affected by phishing attacks, including security leaders, like McAfee and Symantec, and financial giants like Visa and Master Card, estimate there are more than 10,000 scareware packages in circulation today.

Beware if you see a pop-up advertisement window or banner with a message similar to:  “Your computer may be infected with harmful spyware programs. Immediate removal may be required. To scan, click ‘Yes’ below.”, or any “Warning!” this is likely scareware, and you should not allow it to run.

Q:  What is your best protection against viruses, malware, worms, and spyware?
A:  Ensure your anti-virus program is always up-to-date and your firewall is on.  Also, be very careful what attachments you open, or links you click on. The vast majority of viruses are spread through email from people you know whose computer or email account has been infected.   It’s best to have a professional check and tune your computer 2 times per year.

Don’t forget to schedule service if your computer has not been serviced recently
